Job Summary

Financial Planning & Strategy

  • evelop revenue models and pricing strategies tailored for digital wallets, agent networks, and merchant services.

  • Develop and implement long-term financial strategies to support the growth and sustainability of the EMI.

  • Support the CEO and Board in strategic planning through robust financial modelling, forecasting, and investment analysis.

  • Align financial plans with operational and strategic goals of the EMI.

Budgeting & Financial Control

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee periodic financial reviews.

  • Monitor actual vs. budget performance and recommend corrective actions.

  • Ensure robust cost optimization and efficiency tracking across technology, agent commissions, and transaction costs.

  • Establish internal controls and ensure discipline in budget execution across departments.

  • Develop financial policies and procedures in line with international standards.

  • Ensure digital finance products are financially sustainable with clear unit economics.

Financial Reporting & Audit

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local accounting regulations.

  • Ensure transparent and compliant financial reporting to regulators, shareholders, and the Board.

  • Lead external audits and coordinate with internal audit and compliance teams to ensure financial integrity.

  • Maintain proper documentation and support traceability of all financial transactions.

  • Oversee implementation of automated financial reporting systems integrated with core banking/EMI platforms.

Treasury & Cash Flow Management

  • Oversee treasury operations, including management of float accounts, liquidity, and reconciliation processes.

  • Ensure efficient use of working capital to support agent and merchant network requirements.

  • Manage relationships with banks, payment providers, and financial partners.

  • Ensure appropriate safeguards and controls are in place for fund movements and settlements.

  • Ensure real-time liquidity monitoring across agent and merchant networks to avoid service disruption.

  • Develop FX and remittance settlement strategies in coordination with international partners.

Tax, Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with local tax laws, reporting deadlines, and regulatory financial disclosures.

  • Coordinate with legal and compliance teams on financial obligations under EMI regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments affecting the EMI’s financial practices.

  • Prepare and submit reports as required by the Central Bank and other relevant authorities.

  • Ensure alignment with global standards such as IFRS, FATF, and DAB directives on e-money institutions.

Risk Management & Internal Controls

  • Identify and manage financial risks including liquidity, FX exposure, and market volatility.

  • Develop internal control systems to prevent fraud, leakage, and misuse of funds.

  • Conduct periodic risk assessments in financial operations and implement mitigation measures.

  • Support the Enterprise Risk Management framework and risk reporting to the Board.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Lead and mentor the finance department, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

  • Develop capacity-building programs for finance staff on financial systems, controls, and reporting standards.

  • Work collaboratively with operations, compliance, and product teams to support business units with financial insights.

  • Ensure succession planning and talent development within the finance function.

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between finance, technology, and operations for integrated decision-making.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; Master’s degree (MBA or MSc) preferred.

  • Recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CA, CMA) is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role in a bank, EMI, fintech, or telecom-based mobile money service.

  • Experience managing financial operations of a licensed EMI or digital finance institution.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial modelling, budgeting tools, and financial management systems.

  • Experience with financial compliance, tax laws, and regulatory reporting in emerging markets.

  • Proven track record in managing audits, treasury operations, and internal controls.

  • Familiarity with financial technology platforms and transaction-based business models.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between finance, technology, and operations for integrated decision-making.

  • Knowledge of mobile money interoperability frameworks and settlement systems is highly desirable
