Job Purpose
The Agronomist will provide technical agricultural support to project activities, particularly in agricultural livelihoods, sustainable production, climate-smart agriculture, agricultural value chains, and income-generating opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical agricultural advice to project staff and beneficiaries.
- Support assessment and identification of viable agricultural livelihood opportunities.
- Conduct or support agricultural needs and opportunity assessments.
- Provide guidance on improved and sustainable agricultural production practices.
- Promote appropriate climate-smart and resource-efficient agricultural practices.
- Support identification of suitable crops and production systems based on local conditions and market demand.
- Provide technical input to agricultural training and capacity-building activities.
- Support beneficiaries in improving productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Coordinate with agricultural extension services, relevant government departments, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to identification of agricultural value-chain opportunities.
- Coordinate with the Market Linkage Officer to facilitate market opportunities.
- Monitor agricultural activities and provide technical recommendations.
- Document achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and success stories.
- Perform other relevant duties assigned by the Project Manager.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced university degree in agronomy, horticulture, agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, environmental science, or related field.
- Minimum seven years of relevant experience in high-value crops, greenhouse production, nursery establishment, reforestation, and climate-resilient agriculture.
- Strong experience in field training, demonstration sites, and technical supervision required.
- Experience in dryland or western Afghanistan contexts preferred.
